Horror in the Himalayas

Sadie, Outback Jack, Father Jonas, and Sister Agatha travel with the rest of the party to Kathmandu in Nepal. There they leave the rest of their friends behind and visit a local inn to talk to the locals. They learn that there is a monastery abandoned by the local monks because the mi-go have attacked and taken it over with a great metal ship.

They talk to an expedition of men from America, but are brushed off. Sadie tries to sweet-talk them, but they tie her up and cast a spell on her to learn who she is working for. She tells them they are with Armitage's investigation society. They leave her tied up and head out from the inn. The other party members rescue her.

They head with some sherpa guides to the monastery. Inside they find a great mi-go spaceship. As they enter the hall the ship attacks with ice mist and lighting weapons. Father Jonas blasts off the lightning gun of the ship with his lightning gun. Outback Jack tosses a stick of dynamite into the cockpit of the ship and kills the mi-go pilot. The monastery begins to fill with icy mist and they abandoned it.

Their guides lead them around the valley of the tcho tcho tribe on the way to shangri-la. They find a yeti's cave and the yeti attacks them. They managed to kill the beast without causing an avalanche in the narrow canyon. Sadie skins the yeti and wears it's hide to protect her from the elements. Sadie's undead form is beaten badly by the yeti. They spend the night in the yeti's cave.

Sadie is standing watch over the cave when she hears noise outside. She investigates along without rousing her friends and sees a tcho tcho chewing on the remains of the yeti. As she turns to return to the cave several tcho tcho drop down from above and tackle her and drag her off. When the party awakens the next morning, they find their two guides have been dragged off to the tcho tcho village as well.

At the village, they find the tcho tcho have tied up one of the sherpas and are cooking the other one. They free the sherpa guide who flees in terror and begin searching the huts one by one for sadie as the tribe begins to encircle them. The tribal elder offers sister agatha a severed arm which she accepts and pretends to eat. Once Outback Jack find sadie and frees her she charges out and kills several tcho tcho. Sister christie and the rest of the party draw their guns and shoot the rest of the tribe. They head towards the caverns where they believe shangri-la is located in the next valley over.

in the first series of caves they find giant stone statues of the Great Race of Yith and a portal that reads "beyond these gates lies the ancient enemy". They decide not to go that way. The second path leads to a great webbed bridge which they also decide to abandon before crossing. The last path leads to a dry series of caves.

In the catacombs they head towards a humid dry valley filled with vegetation. There they find a dinosaur which sister agatha kills with her shotgun. Father henry is attacked by a giant preying mantis, but cuts one of it's talons and it flees. they head to the far side of the valley and find it dead ends. Also they find they are stalked by a large creature moving beyond the treeline. They flee quickly back to the catacombs before finding out what the creature is.

They head another way and find a rope bridge crossing a great chasm. Across the bridge they see two expedition members standing watch as the rest of them are conducting some sort of ritual.

Outback jack tries to sneak across the bridge and fails to surprise the gunmen who shoot him dead on the bridge. One of the guards tries to retrieve jack's body and falls to his doom off the faulty bridge as well. Sadie Benz tries crossing the bridge to engage the last guard and falls through the bridge. She fails to grasp ahold of the crumbling planks but her coat catches hold for a moment, but then she slips out of the yeti skin and plummets to her doom in the raging river below.

Sister Christie and Father Henry take out the remaining guard and blow up the ritual members with dynamite. They resurrect Outback Jack and Toni Lauratzi joins them (he was coming to investigate when they were gone for many days). After resting a day they investigate the ruins of Shangri-la.

They find a stairway leading down and a passageway in the side of the cliff. They take the side passageway into the cliff and find a squat stone structure. Father Henry Jonas feels drawn to the stone building with no apparent doors. As they move away from the building the priest notices that he becomes weaker and weaker. Finally they decide to blow up the building to see what is inside tormenting their friend. A blast of dynamite reveals the great old one Ygolonac, a tall naked headless man with fanged mouths in the palms of his hands. Ygolonac drives sister christy mad and she flails around on the ground then transforms into a deep one and attacks the party. After a desperate battle Ygolonac and Sister Agatha are slain.

Next they head into the stairs and find a treasure vault containing the statue of cthulhu they seek along with a giant statue of the great old one Chaugnar Faugn, who resembled a great elephant man with tentacled ears. Approaching the statue cautiously, it comes to life and grabs Father Jonas. The fathers eyes go dead and he tells the party to abandon him to the creature as he throws the statue to Toni. Toni blasts Chaugnar and the father with a whole clip from his tommygun, kiling the priest but leaving the great old one unharmed. As he turns to flee Chaugnar grabbs toni.

Toni tosses the statue to Outback Jack who flees the temple ruins, leaving Toni a slave to Chaugnar Faugn's dark whims. As he passes back over the bridge he takes out one final expedition guard on the bridge and meets up with herbert west in the catacombs before returning to Kathmandu and the rest of the party. Madeline Rammstein dies from the wasting disease she got from the tcho tcho in Malta, but Herbert West reanimates her and she comes back to live successfully and is not undead.

In calcutta, they find the ship send by Dagon is gone. With sister agatha gone, they have no way to summon him again, so they begin their journey back to Arkham. Now there are only five party members remaining: Herbert West, Regina Cumberton, Outback Jack, Prof. Greyson, Madeline Rammstein. Connell was lost at sea long with the holy grail and excalibur off the shores of malta.

Servants of Dagon

Introduction: "You met up in Rome with Prof. Armitage and he gives you the golden Amulet of Hydra that you found in the Yucatan. He had brought it to show to some friends at the Vatican and now he wants you to return it to the vault in Miskatonic University's special antiquities collection. The Professor heads off to meet the royal family in Romania and discuss your discoveries in Transylvania. Meanwhile, his assistant Randolph Carter heads off to survey the mines you discovered in Visoko.

You all board the ship bound back to the US from a port in Naples. As you head toward Corsica and Spain that evening an ominous wind and high waves begin to thrash the ship just after the Italian coastline disappears into the horizon. After several hours of desperately clinging to the walls and doorways below deck you finally hit something. The ship rolls over onto it's side on some sort of rocky outcropping, moments before it breaks in half and begins to sink beneath the waves.

As you escape the wreckage of the ship in the dark night skies, you see a lighthouse beacon on the horizon. You look around and see your friends sinking and splashing about desperately in the mad waves."

When the party arrives ashore, Madeline has the Amulet of Hydra. Conell is nowhere to be seen along with Outback Jack, who is also missing. As they cough us seawater and stumble ashore in the light of dawn, they see a woman running across the beach pursued by a man and a woman with knives who are trying to attack her.

They defend the woman with the baby and Herbert West's energy field burns the woman attacking with the knife and she dies. The woman with the child runs to the beach and throws her baby into the sea. Madeline dives in after the child, but seems to see it swimming away from her deeper into the ocean. She loses the baby behind some coral. They tie up the other man with the knife along with the mother in a nearby home.

In the backyard herbert west digs a shallow grave and dumps the body. Then he retrieves one of his syringes of re-animator fluid and brings her back to life. Her body is badly burned and while restrained she still gasps horribly and flails around in agony. Herbert West uses his shovel to put the undead beast out of its misery.

Heading into town they spy some docks. There they meet some fishermen but few speak any language they know. They find some golden statues among some crates on the docks and steal some of them. The also see great scratches and bite marks from some large sea creature on the dock. Finally they find a sailor who speaks french and he tells them to go to the main square and find Dr. Matsya.

in the main square they see a scaffold with a bell on it. A deep ocean pool with some sort of crab statue with a diamond in its claws submerged in it. A squat temple structure and the mansion belonging to Dr. Matsya.

In the home Dr. Matsya's butler, maid and wife welcome the party. They tell them about the shipwreck and are invited to stay as long as they wish until they find their way home. Mrs Matsya insists that they must stay for diner and makes living arrangements in the servants quarters.

While in the cellar selecting wine they notice that there is a heavy metal door in the basement. They inquire and the butler tells them its the insane son of Dr. and Mrs. Matsya and that it would be impolite to mention as its a sore subject.

Regina follows the butler into the kitchen and finds a great crab creature in a pot. She helps the butler subdue it so it can be cooked for dinner.

Madeline learns from the maid that there are several pygmie natives called Tcho-Tcho's living in the Dr's home and that they are trying to civilize them, treating them as children. Herbert West explores the library and learns about the expeditions of Dr. Matsya through his writings.

At dinner later in the evening they are told Dr. Matsya is ill and cannot attend. The tcho tchos arrive and exhibit terrible table manners. One of them throws a bone at Sadie, who reacts violently drawing her pistol. Mrs. Matsya insists they leave, but the party apologizes and she lets them stay though Sadie and Prof. Greyson go to stay with the priest in the temple near the square for the night so as not to cause further offense.

After dinner, regina goes to investigate the basement again. Sister Christy goes to take a nap, Madeline goes with Mrs. Matsya to put the tcho'tcho's back in their rooms and herbert west treats the bite he received from one of the natives he tried to examine after dinner.

All hell breaks lose. A shambling horde of townsfolk, half fish, half man hybrid beings shuffle into the town square and surround the church and the mansion clamoring toward the doors. Sadie runs across the square diving through a window and capping a townsfolk on the way. The mob flows through the broken window into the home.

Downstairs Regina awakens the mad son in the basement and he breaks through his door. He snaps the neck of the maid and chases Regina into the main hall. She tries to run outside but sees the mob and barricades the door. The butler begins to wrestle with her to reopen it so the townsfolk can enter. Herbert West using his power field to blast the insane hulking son of dr. matsya, a green muscular monstrosity with arms covered in bulging veins.

Madeline comes with Mrs. Matsya to the study where she meets Dr. Matsya, a terrible looking being with tentacles coming out of his body and a deformed face. She tries to flee but Mrs. Matsya tries to restrain her. A fight ensues and Madeline kills Mrs. Matsya. The tcho-tchos become angry and cast some spells at her.

Meanwhile Sadie and Regina fight off the horde in the lobby, shooting and hacking away at them. Sister Cristy awakens to find that Dr. Matsya is calling to her and mysteriousy claims to be her brother. She sees his terrible shape and is alarmed. He casts a spell that fills her lungs with water and carries her away. Herbert West grabs a molotov cocktail he has constructed and follows after them.

When christy begins to drown she finds she has gills and begins barfing up the water again. Dr. Matsya drops her and attack west but is driven back by his energy field. West drops the molotov in the ballroom and sets the house on fire. He takes christy in a dreamlike state to one of the rooms where she will be safe and he charges downstairs.

Prof. Greyson was restrained by the priest who used a spell to crush his heart and cripple him so the mob could tie him up, but he used his wither spell to free himself by killing the priest and retieved his tommygun so he could gun the remaining townsfolk outside down. One surviving cultist rang the bell on scaffold outside. Not waiting to see what was awakened, the prof. retreats inside to join the survivors in the main hall.

A moment later the large statue looking crab monster crashes through the main door. Herbert west and Prof. Lawrence dispatch the creature after a short battle. The horrible thing slumps to the floor. Herbert West resurrects Sadie and Regina but their hearts don't restart so they are now undead.

They head back to the house on the beach but find that the mother and the man who was chasing her are both gone. They head in the other direction to the lighthouse. There they find the lighthouse keeper is a friendly deep one hybrid who was the father of the child who was thrown into the sea earlier. He tells them that all their questions can be answered in the sea cave of Ghar Dalam which can be accessed at low tide further down the beach.

They go to the cave and find it is full of deep ones, including a massive Deep One named Dagon. He demands the amulet of Hydra from them which Madeline gives willingly. He offers them gold and the Maltese Falcon, a jeweled statue containing a map to Shangri-La in the Himalyas.

He tells them that Nyarlathotep is his nemesis, and he wishes for them to mount an expedition to Shangri-La to retrieve an artifact, an idol of Cthulhu, for him. He gives the party spells to summon Deep Ones and Dagon himself if they need them and he gives them a crew and ship to take them to India. The party accepts his offer.

Dark Crystals Beneath the Pyramids of Visoko

last game ended with an exploration of Castle Dracula in Brasov, Transylvania. The investigators found evidence that the Migo moth men were mining there and the front company for the mining operation was run by Prince Hotep, a human looking avatar of the outer god Nyarlathotep (the same being you encountered on the expedition to the tomb of Nephren-Ka in Egypt).

Back in Rome, you wired Professor Armitage who is traveling to Europe to speak with the Romanian Royal Family about the happenings in Brasov. While in Brasov, you uncovered information indicating that the Migo will begin mining on Halloween (about one week from now) in the town of Visoko, Yugoslavia. Visoko is noted for it's giant pyramid-shaped earthen hills. Fearing the Migo may destroy the people of Visoko as they did the townspeople of Jenning, the Professor has asked you to travel ahead and investigate the mining site. He's traveling by ship and is worried he won't be able to make it there before the Migo hatch whatever they have planned.

Back in Rome, Sadie Benz has made a recovery at the asylum (though she is still troubled by her past experiences). Madeline Ramstein and Sister Agatha have both been committed. A partisan named Connell from Ireland joins them as a favor to Armitage.

The party arrives in Visoko. They talk to the locals and find them unhelpful when they mention the pyramids nearby. They travel on a dirt road to the fields near the smallest pyramid and find a sign on a fence that says there are mines in the field. A crackling silver orb on a pole rises up from the ground and attacks them with lighting when they approach a nearby tunnel. They blast off the top of the orb and icy mist begins to pour out of the device. They get into the truck and rush off.

As they are fleeing, three migo with armor and lightning guns and three byakee attack the truck. They defend themselves and take out all but one of the migo who flees. As the cold mist clears they return to the tunnel.

Down below they find several robots piloted by human brains. They destroy the robots and the brains inside. Two pinkerton goons with migo brains in them attack with tommyguns. They take them out. The goons are guarding a train and warehouse that leads to the larger pyramid.

They take the train to a series of mines. There they find dozens of byakee eggs and a small cthonian which they destroy. They also find large polished panes of black crystal are being mined. They seem to distort the passage of time when looked through.

They find a migo mining vehicle damaged by a dead cthonion. A large live cthonion rises up and attacks, crushing lord janedyce under its weight when he guns it down. Toni goes crazy and runs off, later gunning down Dr. Smithy when he comes to help him. Smith and Janedyce are resurrected.

Dr. Smithy leaves the party and is attacked by a large Frankenstein monster. He's crushed beneath some rubble and dies again. The rest of the party takes out the monster after a desperate battle and the ceiling collapses on the beast, crushing it to death. They dig out smithy's remains and resurrect him again.

They explore a great chamber where the crystals are being forged into giant hexagonal panes 50' across. They break the crystal forge with dynamite and explore another passage with a giant obsidian door. They knock on the door and it opens. They hear buzzing on the other side, but choose not to go down that way.

They check out the opposite end of the mines and find a prison. Inside are several other mythos creatures that have been experimented on or imprisoned by the migo. The party destroys all of them save a local village who escapes down a long passage.

They follow the villager down the passage where they begin to hear a terrible howling. They see the true form of Nyarlathotep. Toni goes mad, tries to kill the party unsuccessfully in desparation, believing they are monsters, and then flees. Outback jack tackles toni as he uses his genie lamp to wish for a way out and sanity. They both appear in Rome.

Dr. Smithy goes mad and begins to pray at the feet of Nyarlathotep, who assumes human form. Connel shoots him in the head with his rifle to save him from his fate. Lord Janedice pretends to pray to Prince Hotep, but then tries to stab him with Excalibur, but fails. He returns to his horrific giant form and dismembers the nobleman with his claws.

They see two hounds of tindalos in the corner chewing apart the villager. Connel and Prof. Greyson toss dynamite at Nyarlathotep, injuring him badly. Father Jonas uses the lighting gun as well, further injuring him. Nyarlathotep rips Father Jonas to ribbons then begins to crawl down the narrow tunnel after Connel and Greyson.

They drop dynamite behind them in the passage blasting his form to small bits. As he flies away he transforms into a new horrible winged shape and flies off past them down the hall, tiring of the fight. They feel relieved that he has been conquered but unsettled that he will fight another day. Retrieving excalibur and Father Jonas' remains they destroy as much as they can with dynamite and flee the complex, returning to the party in Rome where Armitage and Randolph Carter who congratulate them on a job well done. The priest is resurrected, but there's nothing left of Dr. Smithy or Lord Janedyce to bring back to life.

Survivors: Toni, Greyson, Outback Jack, Connel, Father Jonas
Dead: Dr Smithy, Lord Janedyce

Tommyguns in Transylvania

Castle Bran is set to be handed over to the Royal Family of Romania from the city of Brasov on Dec 1st of 1920. The Castle was run by the Forestry Administration until 1918, at which point they mysteriously decided to turn it back over the city. Everyone keeps playing hot potato with the castle and no one seems to know why. The Royal Family gave Mr. Prescott's Company authorization to inspect the lands for mining rights. Armitage and Carter want the party to see what he's up to there.

Herbert West meets with the party members in Rome, sent by Armitage and Carter. It was West who investigated Jenning and found that the town had been destroyed by extensive strip mining after the inhabitants were frozen to death.

The adventure begins on October 3rd, 1920 (four weeks until halloween). The trip from Rome to Brasov is four days drive. The party rents a truck. Dr. Smithy, Sister Agatha, and Herbert West ride in the front while Madeline rides in the back of the truck.

They are waived through customs at the Slovenian border without trouble. In Hungary, Madeline charms the guards into letting them across the border without trouble. As they enter Romania they bribe the guards to let them through with their weapons and other strange gear (they had taken an interested in Herbert West's glowing re-animation fluid).

On the mountain road in carpatians, they first pass a gypsie caravan on the narrow mountain road, then later something large and hairy jumps out in front of car and Smithy drives them off the road. They pay the gypsies to help them get their truck back on the road and help the gypsies ride into town. As the sun sets they hear a wolf howling in the distance.

When they arrive in town they come to an inn. The innkeeper is convinced that madeline is a gypsie because she was riding in the back of the truck with some gypsies they drove for helping them. She is forbidden to enter the inn. Smithy helps her climb in the back window of the building. Later she disguises herself as a nun with one of Sister Agatha's habits and goes down to talk to some locals who speak German.

Madeline finds that the city has been plagued by disappearances and mutilations, including a gypsies woman who was attacked just recently. They find the local constable and he suggests they go to the local doctors office during the night and investigate further. He says that he will leave the door unlocked for them.

They rise early the next day and go to the doctors office. They find that the body had an arm removed with surgical precision and blood was drained from two puncture marks in the neck. They find the location of the encampment where the body was found in the local records they also see that the last person admitted to the body was struck by lightning.

At the gypsie camp that was abandoned after the woman was attacked they find a lone wagon has been ransacked and stripped of valuables. Wolf prints surround the area and it looks like the roof was torn from the wagon. There is no blood inside.

They talk to the gypsies at the girls funeral and find that they were attacked by giant blackbird creatures the size of a man. Also they speak with the constable and he says there have been reports of giant moths. The constable gives them a tommygun.

They head toward the castle and see they can enter by the graveyard or by the front gate. They check out the graveyard first and see most of the graves have been opened and their contents chewed on. They also find a squat tomb building below ground. They etch and elder sign above the entrance then open the tomb. Inside they see three humanoid figures with pointed ears and fangs. One is reading and the other two appear to be lounging.

Sister Agatha's eyes roll into the back of her head as she sees horrible visions of the dreamlands and the creatures dancing around there. The other party members open fire on the creatures killing them. Sister Agatha recovers.

They find one of the monsters was trying to escape into an open crypt and find a passage towards the castle there. The passage opens up in the tomb of Vlad Teppes, the historical and legendary figure of Dracula. Dracula's remains appear to be a mere pile of bones in the crypt. They explore further and find a room with a strange giant metallic cube suspended over a shaft by a pulley system. They also find a wine cellar and make some molotov cocktails.

As they head upstairs they see a couple of guards armed with tommyguns. Sister Agatha tries to sneak up on them but they turn and open fire. She kills one before she herself is gunned down. The rest of the party takes out the guards. Herbert West tries to re-animate Sister Agatha but the process drives her made, her spirit trapped in visions of the dreamlands like those she saw earlier. Outback Jack, an adventurer who was with Herbert West in Jenning arrives through the main gate, drawn by the sound of gunfire. He was delayed on his journey to Europe from Arkham.

They head upstairs and find a lab where strange experiments are taking place. A doctor is grafting body parts including the dead woman's missing arm to a cadaver and they have removed the brain and put it in a Mi-Go cannister. Outback Jack impales the doctor with his fetch stick and he bleeds to death slowly. They examine the lab's contents but find no other clues.

They head upstairs to the tower structure above the lab and find two metallic pylons decorated in skulls with a swirling vortex of bluish energy between them. Smithy uses his view gate spell and sees an alien landscape on the other side of the gate with two Mi-Go approaching. They open fire on one of the pylons with a tommygun, destroying it as one of the Mi-Go moves through. The creature is cut in half as the gate collapses. It flops around oozing fluid everywhere then expires.

They head up some stairs to the top watch tower and hear a buzzing and clicking on the roof unlike any they're heard thus far. Herbert West has a rope tied around his waist and tries to climb up on top of the roof to get a look at the buzzing. He slips and falls over the side railing. The sound of his fall draws a great black bird/bat creature that swoops down and bits him with it's beak, latching onto him. Outback Jack stabs the creature with his fetch stick and it dies, still holding onto Wests body.

The party pulls on the rope with a great heave and gets Herbert over the rail where they manage to pry the beasts beak off of him, sending its corpse falling to the ground. Two more of the bird/bat creatures swoop down along with a Mi-Go to attack them. They dispatch the two blackbird creatures then retreat back inside the tower just as the Mi-Go opens fire with a great blast from its lightning gun. Outback Jack steps into the electrical storm brazenly and tosses a molotov cocktail at the Mi-Go setting it on fire and sending it spiraling to its death on the courtyard stones below.

They find a hall with a library off the tower room below and inside is Prince Hotep, the man they saw in the desert with the hyenas during the last adventure. They ask him why he is taking their resources and he replies because he can. He says they can join him in his enterprise if they wish to serve him. They refuse and set him on fire. With a gesture he extinguishes the flames unharmed. He calls two alien dog-like creatures that step out of transdimensional portals in the corners of the room and attack, flying across the library towards them.

With tommyguns running dangerously low on ammo they defeat the creatures just as Prince Hotep is fleeing down a secret passage behind a bookshelf. They find paperwork showing the mining operation in Jenning and also suggesting that a similar operation is set to begin on October 31st, four weeks from now in the city of Visoko in Yugoslavia. It also shows that the current operations here in Brasov have not yet begun.

They learn that the great metal cubes are mining machines that draw materials up through the soil for extraction. There are two more of the devices in the trucks outside. The party decides to drop one of the devices into the pit to sabotage it and to take the other two with them.

As they leave the castle a great earthquake starts and both trucks run off the road. Herbert West escapes from his truck as it sinks into the earth. Outback Jack Madeline, and Sister Agatha drive away the car without trouble. Smithy's truck sinks into the earth and he cannot escape. He dies deep in the bowels of the earth.

The party excavates for Smithy's truck which takes about a week. They find the holy grail and his body which Herbert West Re-Animates but the mining device from the truck has sunk deeper into the earth below, never to be found again.

Herbert West takes Sister Agatha and Madeline back to Rome to join Sadie in the Asylum. Madeline cannot speak coherently, but appears to be convinced that she's a character in some sort of game. She also screams madly whenever they try to remove the habit she borrowed from Sister Agatha.

The party sends a wire to Armitage in Bucharest who instructs that they should head to Visoko immediately to stop the mining operations from beginning there. He says he's on his way personally to offer help, but fears he will be unable to make it in time. Visoko is in grave danger and the whole town could perish if they fail to act.

Survivors: Dr. Herbert West, Outback Jack, Dr. Smithy
Sent to Asylum: Madeline Rammstein, Sister Christy Agatha

Egyptian Expedition

Monday, May 24th, 1920. The party travels to Egypt to join an expedition lead by one of Armitage’s associates Prof. Lawrence Greyson. The temple of Bast was built by a very mysterious order of dedicated followers said to have hidden some great and powerful artifacts and secrets. The investigation society wants them to fully investigate what they may learn about the followers of Bast, who disappeared from history around the late middle ages/early renaissance.

Two weeks travel to Egypt by ship, plus two weeks R&R. They spend a few days in Barcelona, a few days in Rome, a few days in Athens, then straight to Cairo, where they ride some camels and take pictures in front of the pyramids at Giza.

Later they travel up the Nile to the newly discovered Temple of Bast. It’s marked by a stone sphinx in the desert a ways up. When they investigate the oasis Sade is attacked by a nile crocodile that bites her leg. Tony fills it full of lead from his tommygun.

At the Temple of Bast, they see an Elder Sign on the entrance to the temple under the stone sphinx. They find a secret entrance that slides open. Upon entering a large stone falls down revealing a great shaft up to the sky (through which sunlight enters the chamber below)

The room down at the bottom of the shaft has a map of stars on the floor, along with many snakes. Toni is lowered down and disperses the snakes with a torch. At high noon, the sun reflects onto the jewels on the floor and walls showing the location of the Necropolis of Nephren-Ka, a mysterious pharaoh little is written about. Later Prof. Greyson learns that Nephren-Ka was wiped from the history books by his successors and only the very secretive sect of Bast were said to know the location of his tomb.

Through double doors a long stone bridge crosses a chasm. There’s a sheer drop on either side. A voice speaks from the darkness. When illuminated they find it is a sphinx sitting on a platform in the darkness. It asks riddles of each crosser, and those that fail are knocked into the bottomless blackness by a hideous roar from the sphinx. Madeline and Prof. Lawrence are hurled into the darkness, but Sade, Prof. LaTerveau, and Toni all answer correctly and move on.

They find a huge treasure vault with three magical items: The holy grail – heals the drinker instantly. Genie in bottle offers them three wishes (though Toni takes the lamp and declines the offer for now). The third is Excalibur (1d12 two-handed magical sword, must be wielded by one of royal blood – noble title or luck check). There is also a statuette of Bast laying in a pile of gold coins and treasures.

In the next room there’s a temple with a giant statue of Bast. There are several animal statues placed in alcoves but one is missing. Prof. LaTerveau places Bast’s statuette back into her alcove bringing her to life, first as a cat, then as a cat-woman. She teaches him a charm animal spell placing her hands on either side of their head. Rays of light spills out of her eyes into Prof. LaTerveau's. She then says something in ancient Egyptian and becomes a statue again.

Meanwhile, Prof. Lawrence is lost in time and space. He travels to Atlantis and meets himself in a past life. The party finds him screaming in a sarcophagus in the treasure room. He cannot speak for 24 hours. Sade fires a few rounds into the sarcophagus thinking it is a mummy before they figure out it’s the doctor and free him.

Toni messes with another statuette and goes into a trance and convulsions. He has a vision that he is being Judged by the Egyptian gods. He is in an operating room and the animal headed deities are removing his organs and placing them on scales to measure their virtue. They are speaking in ancient Egyptian. He rambles incoherently for some time and gains a severe phobia of doctors, hospitals, and surgery.

While Madeline is lost in time and space she has a hallucination that she is standing on a giant table with giant people around her rolling dice. See sees life size figures of her comrades standing on a two dimensional board of the temple of bast. She steps back onto the board and re-enters the “real world” but permanently suffers from the sensation that she has no control over her own destiny and is somehow a playing piece in some strange game.

They travel one week back to cairo. The first day they are travelling, they notice several bedouins in the distance riding of horseback. They wave to them but nothing eventful happens. They spend a month researching the tomb of Nephren-Ka and learn little about the man. They head down the nile.

After the first week they approach an oasis to refill their water barrells. They are attacked by two hungry lions but Toni and Prof. Greyson take them out before they can harm anyone.

At the end of their second week heading up the nile, they find the valley of Nephren-Ka… grass fields become very hot salt flats. They meet salt traders with filed teeth in the flats. They are harmless and cannot communicate with the party but laugh at them. Travelling through valley they find ruined entrance to the Necropolis of Nephren-Ka. They are followed by Hyena’s from a distance, but don’t get close enough for the party to shoot at them.

In the Necropolis of Nephren-Ka, the first room is a treasure room. There’s an Elder Sign above the door. Looks like it was already broken into and looted by thieves. tread They find a secret doorway and spend mintues moving rubble out of the way.

The second room is the tomb of Nephren-Ka’s court (advisors, queen, etc). Mummies rise from the sarcophagi and attack. One mummy has tentacles to grasp and strangle opponents. The rest try to choke with their hands. Madeline is killed during the battle after setting several mummies on fire. Prof. LaTurvea is knocked unconscious by the tentacled mummy. Sade is knocked out and the high priest drags her deeper into the tomb.

Prof. Greyson drags Prof. LaTurvea outside the tomb then leaves him out there, but he thinks better of leaving his unconscious body to the hyenas and drags him back inside after shooting the tentacled mummy down.

Toni rushed deeper into the tomb taking out many mummies and reloading several times. They are very resilient to gunfire. In the adjacent ritual room Toni finds Sade on a blood altar called the Shining Trapezohedron. The Black Pharoh Nephren-Ka bought the altar from the merchants of Khem and committed sacrifices to the Haunter of the Dark around 2610 B.C. before the order of Bast buried him alive and hid his tomb here in the salt flats.

Toni greases the mummy of the high priest and uses the grail to save Sade. The ghost of Nephren-Ka takes possession Sade and has her plunge a ritual dagger through her own heart on the altar of blood.. When blood is spilled on the altar a great salt storm begins to block the entrance and they cannot leave until it clears around midnight. Toni raises Madeline from the dead but goes a little crazy. The stress of the expedition has made him paranoid and homicidal.

That night when the storm passes and they head to the entrance they see Nyarlathotep, who arrives outside the tomb entrance. Prof. LaTurvea witnesses the horror and flees. Sade goes mad and calls LaTurvea a coward, guns him down before her gun jams, then falls to the ground clutching her face and screaming madly. Toni goes catatonic in the doorway and Prof Greyson and Madeline dodge out of the way as Nyarlathotep tosses a stone column through to doorway. The rumble pins Toni to the floor, nearly killing him but for his flesh ward and migo-armor he is wearing.

They wait until dawn. As the sun rises they see a princely Egyptian looking man they presume to be the human form of Nyarlathotep walk off in the salt flats followed by an obedient pack of hyenas. When he is gone, they take the crazed Sade back with them to Cairo. In Cairo they get a telegram from Armitage and Carter that they need the investigators in Transylvania.

They spend a month in Rome after committing Sade at a good institution there. The institution specializes in many cutting edge experimental therapies, but they are not optimistic they can help her. Toni however makes a speedy recovery from his mental illnesses. When they finish resting (nearly five months after they set off for Egypt) the current date is Sunday, October 3rd, 1920.

Arkham Cemetary

Thursday April 1st,1920. Randolph Carter invites you to Professor Armitage's home. Randoph has a car come round to the asylum and pick up Col. Angus and Buck Reynolds. The driver brings them to Armitage’s house. It's early afternoon and Randolph shows you the majestically mounted feathered serpent butterfly that he has added to the professor's extensive insect collection hanging on the walls of his study. He also hands you a vial of bad corpse dust made from the components you retrieved from the Yucatan.

Carter introduces Lord Jaundice the newest member of the investigation society. He's a young man who dropped out of medical school to pursue his interests in parapsychology and the occult.

Armitage arrives a few minutes later as Randolph serves you all tea and coffee. It seems that there may be terrible trouble brewing in Arkham. Just last night a group of investigators from Mikatonic University failed to report back from their patrol of the cemetery on the edge of town. The team consisted of Professor Warren (a specialist in languages) and his two research assistants Joel and Howard. Being that it’s April fools day, at first they thought it was a joke, but as the day wore on, they became more concerned that something was amiss.

The cemetery caretaker asked them to come and look into some strange happenings in the area. He has long been of great assistance to Armitage and the investigation society, helping them out by looking the other way when discretion was needed with the disposal of bodies and other remains. He's been worried lately that he may lose his job after a spree of grave robbing that has gotten some public attention in the press. These are the facts as they are known:

1. A month ago the cemetery caretaker was asked to exhume a corpse for the sheriff and when he dug it up it was missing. A hole was torn in the bottom of the casket and there was a tunnel leading down into the earth. He called the police, but no one came to take his report. Some reporters came and gave him a hard time when he told them what happened and the mayor got wind of it. Last week he saw a shadowy figure dragging a body into a sewage drain near the creek that runs along the north edge of the cemetery grounds. When he checked later, he found that several fresh graves had been opened and their contents removed.

--The sheriff wanted the body exhumed because he was sure that the person, Norton Anders was buried just last week, but the sheriff responded to a call that a farmer nearby saw Norton crawl out of a sewage drain in a ditch nearby. He chased the thing through the woods all the way to the old Winthrop house and shot it down. Turns out the corpse was pretty rotted already. Sheriff was so disturbed he asked for the body to be exhumed to see if Norton was really ever buried there or not. He’s been drinking every day since in his house and won’t leave. His deputies are guarding his house and letting no one in, since he’s in a sorry state. The arkham PD knows the story but are all too scared to go near the cemetery. They know something foul is afoot.

2. To the west of the cemetery, along the road approaching it, there's the old Winthrop house. Shrouded in trees and rumored to be haunted, this home has been abandoned to the elements for at least 100 years. A local folktale says that the terrible visage of some unnameable thing is permanently etched in the attic window upstairs. The legend says the image was the result of some ghastly horror staring out of the window over the decades, burned onto the window like a photocell. Many students at the university have entered the house on a dare for a laugh, but none venture there at night.

3. On the south edge of the cemetery is the mysterious black cave. Some geology students went missing a few years ago while exploring there and the authorities sealed it off. The police investigated reports there were strange rituals there several months ago, but there were no police reports filed and the incident was promptly dropped and left alone. The caretaker said he sees robed figures prowling the cemetery grounds nights when the stars are bright and the moon is full in the sky. He has never interacted with them as they terrify him.

The party sets out toward the cemetary. Lord Jaundice drives his rolls, and Buck takes his pickup. The Col and his dog take his truck as well. Approaching the cemetary around 2:30pm they pull up to the old Winthrop house to the right of the road a quarter mile outside the cemetary.

They enter the dilapidated home and search the main floor finding nothing. The colonel searches the basement and sees a hole in the far wall large enough to crawl through and sees a shadowy figure in the corner. He throws stones at the figure until it reveals itself as the terrified cemetery caretaker Mr. McLaughlin. McLaughlin says that Joel headed upstairs and never came back. They lead the caretaker upstairs and outside to rest and get some fresh air.

Detective Toni Lauratzi shows up and explains that the police never came out here because they're all creeped out by the cemetery. He also said that the Sheriff hasn't left his home for the past week since he ordered the body exhumed.

As the head towards the stairs they see a young man shamble down the stairs. He appears unresponsive when they call him and he moves toward the party. At a close distance he starts strangling Lord Jaundice. Toni blasts his head off with a short burst from his tommygun.

They search the second floor which has two rooms. The first room is a ruined nursery with tattered dolls a crib and other broken furniture. The second room has candles set around an altar and a circle of blood. Bloodied bodies litter the floor along with the remains of other small creatures. Inside the circle of blood is a black bound book and a bloody ritual dagger. A trapdoor is visible in the ceiling.

The colonel tries to enter the circle of blood and immediately begins vomiting and retreats to the next room for several minutes. Buck sets a pillow on fire and throws it in the middle of the circle with no effect other than threatening to set the old floor of the house on fire. They throw a body on top of the pillow to put out the fire and terrible smell of roasted dead flesh fills the room. Everyone must retreat into the nursery.

When the smoke clears, Lord Jaundice enters the cicle cautiously and retrives the book and the dagger. The colonel tries standing on some furniture to reach the trapdoor and falls when it breaks injuring himself. Lord Jaundice agrees to help the colonel lift himself up through the door to see whats up there with his flashlight and elephant gun.

The colonel pokes his head up and searches around. He sees a humanoid shape of bent nearly invisible light waves rush towards him and savagely claw his face, nearly cutting his head in half. The colonels disfigured form falls down on top of the others below. The successfully heal him but he is permanently disfigured, beyond the war wounds and battle scars he already had.

They hear a banging upstairs so they open fire on the ceiling, riddling it with holes. The banging and howling stops. The colonel pokes his mist generator through one of the holes and fills the upstairs with icy mist. Waiting a moment, toni pops up through the trapdoor to investigate. With his flashlight he spots the creatures nearly invisible slumped form laying in one corner, motionless. He fires a large volley from the thompson at it and it still doesnt move.

Lord Jaundice goes upstairs and heads over toward the creature while bucksteps over toward the window and witnesses the creatures terrible visage imprinted in the glass. He retreats back toward the trapdoor and downstairs. Lord Jaundice pokes at the motionless heap with his dagger and to his horror he realizes that the form doesn't yield to his blade and he sees several bent bullets laying around the things body as though they reflected off of it. The colonel takes a firing position in the corner farthest from the creature. They blast open the window, venting some of the cold mist.

The unnameable thing rises up and viciously slashes lord jaundices face and guts open, killing him. The beast rushes Toni who opens up with his tommygun on thing at point blank range. bullets richochet off of it spilling down the trapdoor to pelt Buck who's standing down below. Toni rushes over to Lord Jaundices body and throws the book back down through the trapdoor. He then grabs the Lord's body and drags it back toward the opening.

Meanwhile the colonel blasts the beast at point blank range with his elephant gun, knocking the creature back but not injuring it. The monsters rends him limb from limb and sinks its gnashing fangs into his neck. The colonel dies twitching spasmodically. Toni sees the blood, mist and gunsmoke coalesce into the form of the creature for a moment and it is a horrible winged and horned humanoid demonic creature. He throws Lord Jaundice's body down the hole and leaps after him.

The colonels blood pours down the trapdoor onto Buck and the floor in the ritual room. Buck throws several sticks of dynamite upstairs onto the colonel and the thing feasting on him. The ceiling shakes and then begins to collapse, several beams hit Buck as he dashes out of the room towards the stairs.

Toni drags the lord back to the stairwell and Buck is slashed from behind by the things claws as he steps into the stairway, knocking him unconscious. Toni turns back around and sees that the creature cannot enter the stairway because there is an elder sign above the doorway. The fearsome thing retreats from the doorway.

Downstairs Toni resurrects the Lord as they contemplate their fate. As they raise the Jaundice they hear screaming and see the caretaker try to rush back in but instead get beheaded by the unnameable thing. A car pulls up in the driveway and an old man steps from the vehicle and draws a sword cane, rushing toward the beast. He stabs the creature and injures it with a magical blade and it flys back up to its perch on the roof howling in pain.

The man enters and introduces himself as a visiting Professor LaTerveau from Louisiana. He heard professor warren was missing and came to help the investigation society find him.

They examine the book and find a letter inside from Mr. Winthrop, the original builder of the home. Mr. Winthrop testifies in his letter that he raised a terrible demonic creature with a fertility spell and this creature, his daughter named Alyda was confined to the attic. Before his death he was unable to cast the spell to banish her back to the world she came from, but it is included.

The party does the chant right before sundown. After two hours they see a great vortex start spinning outside the cottage and they see the creature drawn up into it. They step outside when the spell ends and find that buck's car has a flat tire from debris and the Lord's rolls has been crushed by a fallen tree. The other cars are intact.

They take the book and dagger back to Armitage before sunset. He identifies it as the Necronomicon and pleads with them to return to the cemetery to find doctor warren. They reluctantly comply.

Before they leave Armitage says that Randolph stopped by the Sheriffs home and found that the reason he's locked himself in is because a few weeks ago he had reports a man was wandering in the countryside. When he investigated the man attacked him and he shot him. The sheriff identified the man as James Norton, who he knew was buried a month ago. He had the caretaker exhume the body to confirm if it was Norton or not. When the caretaker advised the body at the cemetery was missing, the Sheriff lost his mind, realizing he had killed a dead man.

When they head to the cemetery they visit the caretakers shed. There they find exhumation paperwork, a drawing titled "the thing I saw come out of the sewer" and a dog like skull. They identify the picture and skull as being evidence of ghouls, creatures who consort with wizards and eat the flesh of the dead and sometimes fresher things.

They check out the grave of James Norton and see a portable telephone with a cable running into the coffin below and through a hole in the bottom of the coffin big enough to crawl through. They get a call on the phone and it's professor warren who pleads with them to help him. He says he's trapped below and everything is dark.

Toni goes to check it out and emerges shaken, unable to talk about what he witnessed. Lord Jaundice also investigates and returns confused, unsure what he saw. The professor heads down and sees that the mangled body of professor warren clutches the phone in his dead hands, his legs missing, while his disembodied spirit chats with them on the telephone. LaTerveau retrieves the phone and the body, which the party loads into Buck's truck to take to Armitage.

As they prepare to leave they hear chanting in the black cave on the far side of the cemetary. They proceed to investigate. Wading hip deep in fetid muck, some ditch water and diluted sewage, they find a larger cavern on the far side with loud chanting and firelight.

Around a ritual fire they see seven robed and hooded figures surrounding a giant bloated goat. They raise blades and carve open the goat, dragging out a naked woman's body in a fetal position after chanting to Shub-niggurath a mythos fertility godess. The party opens fire on the horrible cult, killing all of the cultists quickly in a hail of gunfire and a powerful dynamite blast. After the gunbattle, Toni flees back toward the entrance.

Still the bloody naked creature which looks somewhat like a woman but appears to have a fanged mouth crawls unharmed toward a sewer drain pipe along the far end of the cavern. The professor rushes in with his blade and runs her down, stabbing her in the abdomen while lord jaundice kicks at her trying to keep her from escaping.

As the professor twists his blade in her guts and the woman is obviously injured by it, she casts a foul spell on him that makes him see horrible visions of ageless horrors, writhing tentacles, and cyclopedian cities. Buck rushes in to assist just as the professor is overtaken with the terror of the horrific things he sees in his mind. He runs back and slips on the dead cultists bodies falling on his face in a pile of gore.Buck reynolds chases after him getting the magical sword, then returning to attack the goat-spawned woman.

Lord Jaundice fires at the creature point blank and sees tentacles poke out of her skull. Then he is set on fire by the goat-spawns magical attack and he prepares to jump into a pool of foul water nearby when he sees a towering tentacled mass standing atop three great hoofed legs rise from the sludge. He turns still burning and flees toward the entrance screaming. The creature shambles forward and grabs Buck reynolds in one of its great tentacles and trambles him with a cloven hoof.

The professor climbs back up toward the cave entrance and turns just in time to see Buck Reynolds destroy himself by lighting his remaining dymanite. The blast vaporizes Buck and tears off one of the creatures tentacles which immediately regenerates. The main trunk of the creature absorbed the blast unharmed. LaTerveau runs screaming through the muck back outside as Lord Jaundice expires in a burning heap just inside the entrance to the cave.

Toni and the professor are too horrified by the experience to retrieve the lord's body and head back into town. The next morning the lord awakens inside the cave amidst the carnage of the cultists. The great tentacled thing and the goat spawn are nowhere to be seen. Without a vehicle he crawls back to the main road where someone finds him and takes him to the hospital. He spends the next month in the hospital recovering from intense burns all over his body.

Toni, the professor, sadie, madeline, and father jonas spend the next month in the asylum. Toni and the professor deal with their experiences from the black cave. Sadie overcomes her fear of insects and some of her sanity, madeline overcomes her obsessive talking, and father jones overcomes his fear of flying things.

Armitage and Carter decide its time to give the investigators a break from the horrors of Arkham and announce they'll be leaving for Egypt next.

The Terror of the Yucatan

Saturday, February 28th 1920:

Randolph Carter summons the party to the office of Professor Armitage who is still away on urgent business. He advises that Armitage urgently needs them to travel to the Yucatan. There they will make contact with the mysterious and reclusive Ktula people.

The Ktula are hunter-gatherers who live near the ruins of a great city, possibly Mayan or older, that lies somewhere beyond a great rainforest in the "Valley of the Dead".

These have carried on many traditions from ancient times and possess two very valuable spells that Armitage requires. The first allows you to create a special protective powder. The second spell allows you to create a magical spear called a fetch stick.

Besides these two tasks, the most important part of the journey (Carter emphasizes) will be collecting a rare specimen of butterfly that lives somewhere in the rainforest near their village. The Feathered Serpent butterfly is a brilliant, rainbow-colored butterfly with fluffy, almost feather-like wings. With its wings outstretched it is about the size of ones hand. Collecting a live intact butterfly is of the highest priority in their quest.

Passage to the Yucatan has already been booked by Carter. From Kingsport, they will travel by steam ship to Belize City in British Hunduras where they meet with Buck Reynolds the pilot and engineer that will return them to Arkham. From there, a group of Hutterite porters will transport them out of the city by horse and buggy to the edge of the rainforest near the Ktula village. From that point on, they will travel on foot through the jungle until you make contact with the Ktula. Carter says they should welcome you and are aware you are traveling there.

The party wanders through the jungle due West where the road out of Belize City ends. After several hours they make contact with the Ktula. They inquire about learning the two spells and the Ktula advise that in order to meet the medicine man they must prove themselves worth of being warriors in the tribe.

A creature they call the child of bast has been terrorizing the village and eating some of their children. They ask for volunteers who wish to prove themselves warriors. The Colonel, Buck Reynolds, and Madeline accept the challenge and are given special spears that have been blessed to take out the creature. Father Jonas stays in the village and Sadie comes along with the hunters to observe. One of the Ktula leads them through the rainforest to a small cave entrance.

Buck Reynolds enters the cave. The colonel tosses a torch over his head, nearly setting his hat on fire. As the colonel looks around a puma pounces on him from the darkness and starts mauling him. He steps back further into the cave and draws his pistol firing at the creature. The colonel tries to spear the animal as well and fails and is bitten. They kill the puma and drag it's body out of the cave to present to the ktula.

At a fireside ceremony later that evening, Madeline, the colonel, and buck are granted the status of warriors. Madeline and the colonel dawn the traditional body paint and garb of the Ktula warrior, a redish color. The colonel is given a puma loincloth made from the kill of the day. Father Jonas and Sadie wear the bluish body paint reserved for the women in the village. The paint provides a resistance to the insects in the jungle. Buck doesn't wear the warpaint and he gets bitten up by the jungle insects that night.

The next day they rise early to visit the medicine man. He advises that the warriors may learn the spells they need if they eat the flesh of atlach-natcha. He leads them to a clearing in the jungle where there's a large mushroom. They approach the mushroom and an enormous 2' long spider leaps onto madeline, biting her with it's venomous mandibles. The colonel blasts the spider to bits with his elephant gun and begins to scoop up chunks of the dead spider and eat it. Buck Reynolds disgustedly joins in. Madeline has already fallen deep into a trance from the spider's venom. The Father and Sadie watch as the medicine man builds them a fire then takes some of the spider guts himself and enters a trance.

The warriors and medicine man travel to the Dreamlands where they meet the ancestors of the Ktula. They appear naked in a cave filled with a great purple flame. The Ktula teach Madeline the corpse dust spell, then they lead Buck Reynolds down the 700 stairs of sleep into a great wooded area. Several days seem to pass in the dreamlands though only a few hours have passed in the Yucatan. Buck cannot learn the spell because the requirements for the ritual to make the fetch stick are too vile. Nonetheless, when the colonel and buck return from their trance they find that they are both given fetch sticks (though they cannot make more).

Back in the village they meet up with Toni, who had sea sickness and then malaria and was left behind in Belize City for a night. He recovers nicely with the help fo some jungle herbs. The Ktula lead the party through the jungle to find the creepers they need to make the corpse dust powder. That night they set up camp in the valley of the dead. The next morning they awaken to find that Buck is being crushed by a python. Father Jonas chops the thing in half with his crucif-ax. They eat the snake.

One Ktula leads them further to the stone marker, a giant totem pole with fearsome images on it. Colonel Angus freezes it with the Mi-go mist gun then approaches. A dart shoots out from it and sticks to his torch in front of his face. Toni investigates further and finds more poison darts, but nothing else. As they head down the path Toni steps on a panel and a poison dart hits Father Jonas. The poison causes him to have trouble breathing, but he recovers after several hours from medical attention.

They find the poisoned river of Yig and a rickety bridge crossing it about 60' above water. Everyone makes it across okay until Buck Reynolds tries to cross. The heavy adventurer falls through one of the planks and grasps at the bridge finally slipping down into the water. The rest of the party had tied a rope to him earlier so they pull hard to draw him up out of the river.

The colonel sees a dark shape moving towards Buck under the water. Sadie gets pulled onto the bridge while they try to pull Buck out and she falls through the bridge as well. She holds on for a while then falls into the waters below. Buck is pulled up out of the water before the creature can get him and it passes then turns back around to get Sadie. The colonel takes some shots at it while Madeline comes down by the shore downstream and fishes for Sadie with her spear.

Sadie stuggles with the current and cannot swim so she begins to drown. The creature passes by her and she feels cold scales brush against her under the water. Finally she sees the spear Madeline has held out in front of her and grabs onto it and is pulled to safety. The colonel continues firing on the submerged creature as it retreats back upstream swiftly.

They head further down the path and by sunset they have reached the temple of Yig, a squat pyramid with a stone building on top. They see that the feathered serpent butterflies cover the side wall facing the sunlight and shine brilliantly in the twilight. Colonel angus sneaks up and nets one just as five skeletal conquistadors rise suddenly from the jungle ruins and attack. They blast all of the conquistadors before they can be injured and proceed to investigate the temple at the top of the pyramid.

A heavy stone door on the structure won't budge, so Buck uses some dynamite to blow a hole in the heavy solid stone door. Father Jonas pulls a chuck of stone out of the debis big enough to create a hole that someone can hunch over and fith through. The colonel tosses a torch into the room and sees it said past a chest of treasure down into a well in the center of the chamber, where it splashes and is extinquished.

Sadie enters with her flashlight and rope tied to her and takes a couple of gold circular things out of the chest and puts them in her back. She hears a sound from down below and without looking down she begins to flee. She makes it just outside the temple entrace when she is grabbed by some unseen thing inside and dragged back in kicking and screaming. The party clutches at the rope desperate to pull her back through the hole, and eventually the resistance drops away and they feel only the weight of her body. They drag her back through the entrance and see that she has been bitten by some large thing and is now dead. Madeline sees her back with the gold in it just inside the temple.

She reaches for it and is bitten by a large serpentine head. The poisonous fangs instandly kill her. The large feathered serpent uncoils and emerges fully from the temple to attack the rest of the party. The colonel, who had until now refused to look turns back around to witness the horrible thing. Toni unloads the rest of his clip from his thompson into the great snake, obliterating the foul creature.

They retreat back through the jungle to the Ktula village arriving by dawn the next day. The Ktula resurrect the two dead party members and celebrate the death of Yig, whose head they brought with them. They return with the two gold amulets of the sea gods Dagon and Hydra to Arkham where they present it along with the head of Yig, and the other materials they gathered.

Armitage is pleased with their haul and offers to keep their relics and trophies hidden away for them on campus, where they can be retrieved if needed by the professor or Carter during regular school hours. The party takes a much needed rest. Sadie, Father Jonas, the Colonel, and Madeline spend the next month in the Asylum trying to get better. Some of them succeed, more or less.

The Madness at Jenning

Sunday, January 25th, 1920:

Sadie Benz the author, Colonel Angus the explorer, and Father Jonas meet with Randolph Carter in Arkham at the office of Professor Armitage at Miskatonic University. Randolph has been in correspondence with the team and is enlisting them to help investigate strange paranormal activities in the area and to thwart evil plans that endanger the community.

Carter explains he was hoping to get a spell from a friend named Bartley Hodges. Bartley was a reporter from the city who moved out to Jennings, a rural part of Vermont about three hours drive away from Arkham. Word is that Bartley went missing doing some investigating of his own.

The party agrees and heads out to Jenning to investigate. Along the way they stop at the county seat called Battleboro and talk to the local sheriff and his deputy. They say that Bartley has been missing and there are no leads. The town of Jenning searched the countryside for him but didn’t turn up anything. The paper is offering a $500 reward if he’s found. They get directions from the sheriff to Bartley’s house.

They find Bartley’s house before nightfall and they slip in through an unlocked window. No further clues in his house so Colonel Angus decides to spend the night there with his dog. Father Jonas and Sadie Benz are averse to staying in a missing man’s home so they drive an hour out to a larger town and get lodging there.

During the middle of the night the Colonel is awakened when he sees an icy mist roll out of the woods and envelope the cabin. When he walks to the window to investigate he hears a bone-curdling howling unlike anything in nature from off in the distance. He returns to bed and cowers there until morning, his dreams tormented by the memory of the sound.

The next day they get up early and meet in town. They talk to the clerk at the general store and learn that Harney Rooger who lives up on the mountain has been acting strangely and that he attacked the postman.

The party decides to investigate this but first they follow up on another lead by talking to the local schoolteacher. She tells them that she’s seen some big crawdads that are purple all over with scrunched up faces. Madeline Rammstein shows up in town, sent by Carter to join the group and she introduces herself to the locals but they are a bit put off by her forward manner.

Sadie and the Colonel head up the hill to talk to Rooger while Madeline and the Father go to check out local Indian legends surrounding the cold and the howling they heard. At the library in the larger town an hour away they learn of the legend of the Wendigo Ithaqua, the windwalker who prowls the arctic wastelands. Sadie and the Colonel offend Rooger and he drives them off his land. They briefly investigate the mines nearby but nothing else.

They all meet up later in the evening at the Jenning’s Monday night meeting. On the agenda is figuring out what is going on with the fires on the hill and talking about the local mining company that came to visit. They deduce from eyewitnesses that three men from the mining company headed up the mountain last week, but only one of them was seen leaving town. Third on the agenda is celebrating Mrs. Pickins’ 60th birthday. They leave and find lodging in the same hotel in the nearby town an hour away.

The next day Madeline and the Father head over to Harney’s to talk to him and they learn that his crops have been doing well due to his “friends” who are from another world. He’s compulsively chopping wood and offers them some moonshine he made. Madeline graciously thanks him and leaves with Jonas.

They also explore the local mine and inside they find the notebook of Bartley Hodges with the Find Gate spell in it. Also they find a Mi-Go brain canister in the mines and hook it up to a machine so it can speak to and see them. Sadie loses her mind and tosses the brain canister down a mineshaft. They also find a vivisected corpse with the brain missing and some crates containing the remains of two brains and another corpse. Inside the mine they meet Toni Laurattzi, a detective from Arkham PD who was sent by Carter to assist them.

They deduce that there are three brains, but only two corpses, so one body is missing. Upon investigating the mine shaft they find the remains of a large moth-like creature described by locals as a purple crawdad or moth-man. They investigate the rest of the tunnels and find a path leading out the other side of the mountain and they see a stone circle on the side of the adjacent hill across the valley.

Before nightfall Sadie and Jonas head across the valley to hide outside the stone circle. Madeline, Angus, and Toni trail Rooger and at dusk he also leads them up to the stone circle. Rooger sees Madeline following him and shoos her away, sending her back to town. She doubles back and finds her way to the stone circle.

A ceremony starts and Harney starts chanting. Three Mi-Go moth creatures fly down and perch themselves atop the stone circle and start buzzing as well. A great blue swirling vortex of flame starts from their sacrificial fire.

Toni takes a shot at one of the Mi-Go. Colonel Angus takes a shot at Rooger and kills him with his Elephant Gun. Sadie is spotted by two of the Mi-Go and they shoot an icy mist and an electrical gun at her. Father Jonas hurls an ax at the one with the electrical gun and misses. Sadie dies screaming in the icy mist.

Colonel Angus reloads. Father Jonas tries climbing up the side of the stone structure to reach the Mi-Go and falls. The Mi-Go fighting Toni picks him up and carries him up into the sky, dropping him to the ground. Madeline provides medical attention to Toni, saving his life. She desperately fends off the Mi-Go then blasts it with Toni’s tommy gun, killing it. Colonel Angus kills the second Mi-Go, and Madeline finishes off the last one with the tommy gun.

As they turn and flee the scene, Father Jonas isn’t fast enough as he drags Sadie’s body away from the scene and Ithaqua arrives through the swirling gate. The giant sends and icy blast of wind that tosses the priest like a ragdoll through the sky, killing him on impact. Ithaqua lumbers down through the valley with cold mist trailing in his wake.

The next day the party finds that everyone in Jenning froze to death that night (over 200 people). They return to Arkham with the spell for Carter and the Colonel resurrects Jonas and Sadie using his magic. The Colonel spends the next month in an asylum seeking professional help. The rest of the party swaps spells and prepares for their next adventure.
